Recently, Shadows on the Hudson had the distinct pleasure of hosting a truly unique private event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Page Lumber, a Poughkeepsie institution. This family-owned business has been a cornerstone of the Dutchess County community for a century, and we were thrilled to help them celebrate this incredible milestone.

The theme of the evening was a playful nod to the world of building supplies, with our waterfront venue transformed using a variety of tools and materials directly from Page Lumber’s extensive inventory. Ladders, wheelbarrows, axes, buckets, shovels, planks, and cones all played a part in creating a whimsical and industrial-chic atmosphere. Hors d’oeuvres were presented in a truly unique way, served on toolboxes, paint trays, diamond plate sheets, and even shovels!

A stunning ice sculpture replicating a Page Lumber truck took center stage, displayed proudly in front of our floor-to-ceiling fireplace. This creative touch added a touch of whimsy and perfectly captured the essence of the celebration.

But the true star of the show was the phenomenal food! Guests were treated to a culinary journey featuring a wide variety of passed hors d’oeuvres, a carving station with tomahawks, South African lobster tails, and a rack of lamb, a raw bar overflowing with fresh seafood, a pasta station offering made-to-order cacio e pepe and short rib gnocchi, a tempting BBQ station with baby back ribs, decadent porky mac and cheese, and delightful brisket cornbread crostini’s, and even a dedicated chicken and waffle station! To top it all off, a dessert station offered a live cheesecake dipping and building experience, live crème brulee, assorted pastries, and a selection of Great Gatsby-inspired roaring 20’s cocktails – the perfect ending to an unforgettable evening.

The evening wasn’t just about celebrating Page Lumber’s rich history; it was also a chance to look towards the future. Guests were treated to a brief presentation highlighting the company’s incredible journey, from its humble beginnings as a cement block-making operation founded by Henry G. Page Sr. in 1924, to its evolution into a leading supplier of building materials for Dutchess County. The presentation also paid tribute to Henry Sr.’s unique personality and management style, leaving a smile on everyone’s face.

We at Shadows on the Hudson were honored to be a part of this momentous occasion. Congratulations again to Page Lumber on 100 years of success! Here’s to many more years of providing the community with high-quality building supplies and exceptional customer service.
